Using PTO During Leave

If you take a Leave of Absence, your paid time off (PTO), including sick, vacation, and holiday time, may affect how your leave works and whether you receive other benefit payments. Understanding when you need to use PTO and how it may affect your benefits can help you plan for time away from work.

Paid Time Off Eligibility

Paid time off programs and eligibility for Hawaii caregivers and clinicians may vary based on position, work location, employment status, and other applicable requirements. For information about the paid time off available to you, including eligibility, accruals, available hours, carryover provisions, and other program details, please refer to the Field Employee Policies (0-117 and 0-7604) or contact your office manager.

How Does PTO Work With a Leave?

If You’re Approved for FMLA

You must first use your accrued sick, vacation, and holiday time. This time counts toward your FMLA leave and does not extend your FMLA entitlement.

If You’re Receiving Disability or Paid Leave Benefits

Using PTO while receiving Voluntary Short-Term Disability, state disability, or paid family or medical leave benefits may reduce, offset, delay, or otherwise affect your payments. The impact depends on the applicable program and benefit rules.

Important Note

PTO, FMLA, and disability benefits serve different purposes. Using PTO may affect how much paid leave you have available later and how much you receive from other benefits. Before using PTO during a leave of absence, contact BAYADA Leave Management to understand how it may affect your specific situation.
