COBRA

COBRA can provide a bridge when your BAYADA health coverage ends, giving you the option to continue your current coverage for a limited time. Understanding how COBRA works, when it may apply, and what your options are can help you make the best choice for your next step.

What Is COBRA?

COBRA is a federal law that may give you and your covered dependents the option to continue your BAYADA health coverage for a limited period after certain qualifying events, such as losing coverage because your employment ends or your hours are reduced.

When Might COBRA Apply?

COBRA may be an option if you or a covered family member loses eligibility for BAYADA medical coverage because of a qualifying event. Depending on the situation, COBRA may allow you to continue coverage for yourself, your spouse, and/or your dependents.

What Should I Know About COBRA?

COBRA coverage generally continues the same health plan you had before the qualifying event, but you are typically responsible for the full cost of the coverage, including the portion previously paid by BAYADA, plus any permitted administrative fee.

How Do I Get COBRA Coverage?

If you become eligible for COBRA, you will receive information explaining your rights, coverage options, costs, and how to enroll. Please note: Hawaii employees and eligible dependents generally have 60 days to elect COBRA coverage. After electing, you have 45 days to make your first premium payment. Once that payment is received, coverage is effective retroactively to your COBRA effective date. Review the information carefully and follow the instructions by the deadline if you choose to continue your coverage.
