Medicare Support
As you approach Medicare eligibility, you may have questions about what it covers, what options you have, and where to start. BAYADA offers resources to help you navigate the process and make informed decisions about your coverage.
What Is Medicare?
Medicare is federal health insurance for people age 65 and older and, in some cases, people under 65 with certain disabilities. Once you become Medicare-eligible, Medicare becomes your primary health coverage. Basic Medicare does not cover all medical expenses, so you may choose additional coverage to help with costs.
When Do I Become Eligible?
You typically become eligible for Medicare at age 65, although there are some exceptions. Medicare eligibility is based on your individual situation, so your spouse may become eligible before or after you. If you are not eligible because of a disability, retiring before age 65 does not make you Medicare-eligible.
What Medicare Coverage Is Available?
Medicare has several parts, each covering different types of care:
- Medicare Part A helps pay for inpatient hospital care, skilled nursing facility care following a hospital stay, some home health care, and hospice care.
- Medicare Part B helps pay for doctors’ services and other medical services and supplies. Premiums may apply.
- Medicare Part D helps pay for prescription drugs. Part D is separate from basic Medicare, and premiums may apply.
You can also choose supplemental coverage to help pay for expenses that basic Medicare does not cover.
