Taking a Leave

At times, personal and family responsibilities may require you to step away from work. Whether you are recovering from a medical condition, welcoming a new child, caring for a loved one, or navigating another significant life event, a Leave of Absence (LOA) can provide the time and support you need to focus on what matters most.

Types of Leave

The following types of leave may work together to provide time away from work, job protection, and income replacement, depending on your situation and eligibility.

You may take leave for a variety of reasons, including:

  • Medical Leave: Time away to recover from an illness, injury, surgery, pregnancy, or other medical condition.
  • Parental Leave: Time away to bond with a newborn, newly adopted child, or foster child.
  • Family Leave: Time away to care for an eligible family member with a serious health condition.
  • Military Leave: Time away for qualifying military service or certain military-related family needs.
  • State Leave Programs: State-specific programs that may provide paid medical, family, parental, disability, or other leave benefits.
  • Family and Medical Leave (FMLA): Job and benefit protection for qualifying family, medical, and military-related reasons.
  • Intermittent Leave of Absence: Approved leave taken in separate periods or on a reduced schedule.
