Voluntary Short-Term Disability
Voluntary Short-Term Disability insurance, offered through MetLife, can keep you financially stable should you become disabled and unable to work. It can help provide a sense of security, knowing that if the unexpected should happen, you’ll still receive a monthly income.
What Does Voluntary Short-Term Disability Cover?
Voluntary Short-Term Disability insurance provides financial protection when a non-work-related condition, illness, or injury prevents you from working for a period of time. This can include situations such as pregnancy, illness, or injury. If eligible, the plan pays you a portion of your weekly earnings while you’re unable to work.
Who Is Eligible?
To be eligible for our Voluntary Short-Term Disability program, you must:
- Work an average of at least 15 hours per week.
- Earn at least $26,000 in gross annual income.
- Complete 90 days of employment and elect coverage. Coverage begins the first day of the month after your 90th day of employment.
If you work in California, Hawaii, New Jersey, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Oregon, Washington, or Washington, D.C., you may qualify for state-mandated Short-Term Disability coverage instead and are not eligible for BAYADA’s Voluntary Short-Term Disability plan.
Transitioning From The Hartford to MetLife
If you’re currently enrolled in Voluntary Short-Term Disability through The Hartford, your coverage will automatically transfer to MetLife for 2027. No action is needed. Claims that begin on or before December 31, 2026, will continue to be managed by The Hartford. Claims that begin on January 1, 2027, or later will be managed by MetLife.
