Disability/ADA Leave
Disability Leave provides time away from work when an illness, injury, pregnancy, or other medical condition prevents you from working.
What Is Disability Leave?
Disability-related Leave may apply when an illness, injury, pregnancy, or other medical condition prevents you from working and you need time away from work.
Depending on your situation, you may also qualify for FMLA, Voluntary Short-Term Disability, state disability benefits, or another applicable leave program. These programs may run at the same time.
If you know you will need time away from work, contact MetLife as soon as possible to begin the leave process.
Eligibility
Disability Leave may be available if you are unable to work because of a qualifying medical condition. Eligibility and the amount of leave available depend on your circumstances and the applicable leave program.
If you are applying for Voluntary Short-Term Disability, you must meet the eligibility requirements for the plan.
How Does Disability Leave Work With Other Types of Leave?
Disability Leave may apply at the same time as other leave programs. For example, if you qualify for FMLA and Voluntary Short-Term Disability, the leaves may run concurrently.
FMLA provides job and benefit protection but is unpaid. Voluntary Short-Term Disability may provide income replacement when a qualifying disability prevents you from working.

Important Note
Voluntary Short-Term Disability is a separate, voluntary benefit. You must elect coverage and meet the plan’s eligibility requirements to receive benefits.
Pregnancy may qualify for Voluntary Short-Term Disability when it prevents you from working. Your leave following the birth of a child may also include Parental Leave for bonding. Click here to learn more.
