Intermittent Leave

An intermittent Leave of Absence allows you to take approved leave in separate periods rather than as one continuous absence. Depending on the applicable leave program, this may include occasional time away or a reduced work schedule.

Who May Be Eligible?

Intermittent Leave may be available if you meet the requirements of an applicable leave program, and your leave is approved for intermittent use.

You cannot work while taking intermittent leave time.

When Might You Need Intermittent Leave?

You may need Intermittent Leave when your qualifying reason for leave requires you to be away from work periodically rather than for one continuous period.

For example, you may need occasional time away for medical appointments, treatment, or other qualifying needs.

How Does Intermittent Leave Work With Other Leave?

Depending on your situation, Intermittent Leave may be covered under FMLA or another applicable leave program. Click here to learn more.

Important Note

For intermittent FMLA, MetLife tracks your leave through your claim. When you need to use intermittent FMLA time, you must report it to both your manager and your MetLife claim manager.
