Public Service Loan Forgiveness

If you have federal student loans, you may be able to have some of your remaining loan balance forgiven through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program.

What Is PSLF?

Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) is a federal program that may forgive the remaining balance on your eligible federal student loans after you make 120 qualifying monthly payments while working full time for a qualifying employer, such as BAYADA.

How Does PSLF Work?

Think of PSLF as a 10-year path toward potential loan forgiveness. As you make qualifying payments while working full time for BAYADA, those payments can count toward the required 120. Once you’ve met the requirements, you may be eligible to have the remaining balance on your eligible Direct Loans forgiven.

To qualify for PSLF, you need to make 120 qualifying monthly payments toward your eligible federal student loans while working full time for BAYADA. After you make all 120 qualifying payments and meet the other program requirements, the remaining balance on your eligible Direct Loans may be forgiven.

To work toward loan forgiveness, you generally must:

  • Have eligible federal Direct Loans
  • Work full time for BAYADA — for PSLF, that generally means working an average of at least 30 hours per week
  • Make 120 qualifying monthly payments while working for a qualifying employer. The payments do not have to be consecutive
  • Meet the federal requirements for qualifying payments and repayment plans. Your loan type and repayment plan determine whether your payments qualify

Track Your Progress

It’s a good idea to verify your eligibility and track your qualifying employment and payments along the way rather than waiting until you’ve made 120 payments. StudentAid.gov’s PSLF Help Tool can help you check your information and manage the PSLF process.

What if I Leave BAYADA?

If you leave BAYADA before making 120 qualifying payments, the qualifying payments you’ve already made can still count toward PSLF. You’ll need to work full time for another qualifying employer to continue earning qualifying payments, and you must be working for a qualifying employer when you apply for PSLF forgiveness.
