Health Savings Account (HSA)

A Health Savings Account (HSA), administered through Optum, gives you a tax-advantaged way to save and pay for eligible health care expenses, including deductibles, copays, coinsurance, prescriptions, dental care, and vision care. An HSA is paired with a high-deductible health plan (HDHP), which generally offers lower premiums and may help reduce your overall health care costs.

How the HSA Works

Eligibility

You must be enrolled in the Aetna High Deductible APCN+ Plan, which is a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP).

To contribute to an HSA, you cannot:

  • Have other medical coverage that is not a qualified HDHP, including coverage through a spouse unless that plan is also a qualified HDHP
  • Be enrolled in a traditional health care FSA
  • Be enrolled in Medicare, Medicaid or TRICARE
  • Be claimed as a dependent on someone else’s tax return
  • Be a veteran who has received non-preventive care through the Department of Veterans Affairs within the past three months

Contributions

You contribute on a pretax basis and can change how much you contribute from each paycheck up to the 2027 IRS maximum of $4,500 if you enroll only yourself or $9,000 if you enroll in family coverage. Eligible participants can make an additional catch-up contribution of $1,000 if age 55 or older.

Eligible Expenses

You may use your HSA funds to cover medical, dental, vision, prescription drug expenses incurred by you and your eligible family members. For a full, searchable list of eligible expenses, visit optum.com/qualifiedexpenses.

Using Your Account

Use the debit card linked to your HSA to cover eligible expenses or pay for expenses out of your own pocket and save your HSA money for future health care expenses.

Your HSA is always yours — no matter what.

One of the best features of an HSA is that any money left in your HSA account at the end of the year rolls over so you can use it next year or sometime in the future. And if you leave BAYADA or retire, your HSA goes with you so you can continue to pay for or save for future eligible health care expenses.
