Medical Leave

Medical Leave provides time away from work when you need to recover from an illness, injury, surgery, or other medical condition.

What Is Medical Leave?

You may need Medical Leave when your own medical condition prevents you from working or requires you to be away from work for an extended period.

Medical Leave itself does not necessarily provide income replacement. Depending on your situation, you may also qualify for FMLA, Voluntary Short-Term Disability, state disability benefits, or another applicable leave program.

If you know you will need time away, contact MetLife as soon as possible to begin the leave process.

Eligibility

Medical Leave may apply when your own medical condition prevents you from working or requires you to be away from work. Eligibility, the amount of leave available, and any income replacement depend on your circumstances and the applicable leave program.

If you are applying for Voluntary Short-Term Disability benefits, you may also need medical documentation or certification from your health care provider.

How Does Medical Leave Work With Other Leave?

Depending on your situation, Medical Leave may be covered by FMLA, Voluntary Short-Term Disability, or other applicable leave programs. These programs may run concurrently rather than one after another. Click here to learn more.

Important Note

If your medical leave is related to a pregnancy, your leave may include both a period of Medical Leave and time for Parental Leave. If you elect BAYADA’s Voluntary Short-Term Disability coverage and meet the eligibility requirements, pregnancy may qualify for Voluntary Short-Term Disability benefits if it prevents you from working.
