Hawaii TDI
Hawaii Temporary Disability Insurance (TDI) requires employers to provide partial wage replacement insurance to their eligible workers for a non-work-related injury or sickness, including pregnancy. HI TDI is administered through Tristar, a third-party vendor through MetLife.
Who Is Eligible?
You are eligible for the Hawaii TDI program if you meet the following criteria:
- At least 14 weeks of Hawaii employment, during each of which you were paid for 20 hours or more and earned at least $400 during the 52 weeks immediately before the disability.
- The 14 weeks can be with multiple employers and does not need to be consecutive.
Office Short-Term Disability
As an office employee in the state of Hawaii, you may be eligible for state disability benefit as well as Office Short-Term Disability. Our Office Short-Term Disability (STD) plan (67% of salary up to a maximum) will be subtracted from state disability benefit. Office STD is administered through MetLife.
HI TDI Program Overview
Weekly Benefit
The HI TDI program covers 58% of your average weekly earnings, up to the state maximum.
Waiting Period
There is a 7 day waiting period before benefits begin.
Job and Benefits Protections
The HI TDI program does not provide job protection, only monetary benefits. However, job protection may be provided through other federal or state laws such as the federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) or the Hawaii Family Leave Law (HI FLL).
Benefits are protected for 3 months from the date of disability.
Coverage Period
Maximum of 26 weeks for benefit year.
Filing for Disability
- You will be required to submit completed Parts A and C of the Hawaii TDI claim form. Please contact LeaveManagement@bayada.com to retrieve the form for completion.
- Leave Management will complete Part B of the form.
- Completed Parts A and C can be emailed back to LeaveManagement@bayada.com or submitted to Tristar via email TDI.FI@tristargroup.net or fax (808) 470-0862.
