Long-Term Disability

While Short-Term Disability coverage can help replace part of your income when a non-work-related injury or illness temporarily keeps you from working. If you’re unable to return to work after your Short-Term Disability benefits end, Long-Term Disability coverage through MetLife can help provide continued income support.

Who Is Eligible?

You can enroll in the Long-Term Disability plan after completing the three-year waiting period.

How Much Can I Receive?

The plan replaces 60% of your covered monthly earnings, up to a maximum benefit of $5,000 per month. If your monthly earnings exceed $8,333, your benefit is limited to $5,000 per month.

When Do Benefits Begin?

Benefits begin after 180 days of disability.

How Long Can I Receive Benefits?

Benefits may continue until you recover or reach your normal Social Security retirement age, whichever comes first, subject to the plan’s terms and eligibility requirements.

State Disability Benefits

If you live in Connecticut, Hawaii, Massachusetts, New Jersey or New York, you may also qualify for state-mandated disability and leave benefits. MetLife will automatically process applicable state benefits with the state.

If you live in another state, refer to the instructions in your MetLife disability benefits package for information about filing for state benefits.
