Short-Term Disability

Short-term disability (STD) through MetLife can help replace part of your income if you’re unable to work because of a pregnancy, illness or injury that is not work-related. This benefit can provide financial support while you focus on your health and recovery.

Who Is Eligible?

You can enroll in the Short-Term Disability plan after completing the 90-day waiting period.

What Is the Benefit Amount?

The plan replaces 67% of your weekly earnings before your disability, up to a maximum benefit of $1,119 per week. Your benefit payment is based on your exemption status.

When Do Benefits Begin?

Benefits begin after 14 days away from work.

How Long Can I Receive Benefits?

You can receive benefits for up to 26 weeks, subject to the plan's terms and eligibility requirements.

Please note: You cannot receive Short-Term Disability benefits if you are receiving workers’ compensation benefits.

How to File a Short-Term Disability Claim

If you expect to be out of work for more than three days, you must report your disability claim to MetLife to receive benefits.

To report your claim, call 1-800-638-5000 or visit MetLife’s Life Claims Center.

State Disability and Leave Benefits

If you live in Connecticut, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey or New York, you may also be eligible for state-mandated disability and leave benefits. MetLife will automatically process applicable state benefits as part of your claim.
